Why these numbers matter for eCommerce brands
Plenty of seven-figure stores are unprofitable, and almost none of them can see it from the dashboard. These are the four places the money goes missing.
-
Revenue hides the margin
Goods, shipping, fees and marketing each take a slice of every order, and they live in different spreadsheets. A store can grow 40% and finish the year with less cash, because nobody saw the whole stack on one order.
-
Platform ROAS marks its own homework
Meta, Google and TikTok each claim credit for the same sales and none of them know your costs. A 4x can lose money and a 2x can print it. The only ROAS that means anything is the one measured against your own break-even.
-
CAC only means something next to LTV
Acquisition costs rise every year for every brand. Treat CAC as a number to minimise and you starve growth; treat it as a number to afford and you need to know what a customer is worth in profit, not revenue, and how fast they pay back.
-
Growth multiplies what’s underneath
rsquo;s underneathScale a healthy profit per order and you scale profit. Scale a thin one and you scale the problem, faster, with more stock and more staff. A budget set from a revenue target and checked against margin is the difference.
