What LinkedIn rewards

LinkedIn plays by different rules. Precise, people-led and patient

On most platforms reach is cheap and the algorithm finds the buyer. On LinkedIn you choose the buyer, pay more for every click and win on relevance. Here’s how it actually works, what it rewards, and what that means for your ads.

Other ad platforms

The algorithm finds the buyer

On most feeds you hand the platform a creative and a conversion event and it works out who to show it to. Reach is cheap, the audience is everyone, and the ad does the targeting. Brilliant for a consumer brand, blind to what anyone does for a living.

LinkedIn

You choose exactly who sees it

LinkedIn is built on professional data that members keep current themselves. You can put an ad in front of every finance lead at two hundred named companies and nobody else. The catch is the price per click, so every impression has to land on someone who can actually buy.

  • Job title
  • Seniority
  • Function
  • Industry
  • Company size
  • Company lists
  • Skills
  • Interests

It rewards relevance, not reach

Small, exact audiences cost more per click and far less per qualified lead. The message has to speak to the role on the screen: what a finance director needs to hear is not what an operations manager needs to hear, and one generic ad for both pays LinkedIn prices for neither.

It trusts people over logos

A post from a founder, a specialist or a customer gets read where the same message from a company page gets scrolled past. Thought Leader Ads put spend behind those posts, from your own team or any member who approves it, and on LinkedIn’s own figures they are clicked far more than a standard image ad.

Most of your buyers aren’t buying today

At any moment only a small share of a business market is in market. The rest will buy in months or years. LinkedIn rewards the brand that stays in front of the whole buying group now, so it’s the name remembered when the budget appears, and punishes the account that only ever asks for the demo.

It’s a buying committee, not a buyer

A considered purchase is signed off by several people with different worries. Account-based targeting reaches the whole committee inside your target companies, with a message for each role, instead of one lead form fired at one job title.

The form fill isn’t the result

Lead Gen Forms make it easy to collect names. What matters is which ones become opportunities. With the Conversions API and your CRM connected, LinkedIn can now optimise towards the leads your sales team actually qualifies, and report the pipeline and revenue the ads produced.

What most brands
struggle with on LinkedIn

“LinkedIn is too expensive.”

What we do

Per click, it is. Per qualified opportunity it is often the cheapest channel a B2B brand runs. We keep audiences tight, exclude the people who can’t buy, lean on the formats LinkedIn charges least for and judge spend on cost per opportunity, not cost per click.

“The leads are junk.”

What we do

Usually because the form was too easy and nothing told LinkedIn which leads were good. We add qualifying questions, connect your CRM, send qualified‑lead outcomes back through the Conversions API and let the account optimise towards the leads your sales team wants.

“Lots of impressions, no pipeline.”

What we do

Awareness campaigns with no next step produce exactly that. We build the funnel in stages: reach the target accounts, retarget the people who engaged, then ask for the conversation. And we report pipeline and revenue, not reach.

“Our ads look like a brochure.”

What we do

Company-page ads with stock imagery get scrolled past by people who are on LinkedIn to read other people. We brief founder-led posts, Thought Leader Ads, documents and short video that read like the feed, then put spend behind what earns the read.

“We can’t tell what LinkedIn produced.”

What we do

Long sales cycles and last-click reporting hide it. We set up the Insight Tag and Conversions API properly, connect your CRM to LinkedIn’s Revenue Attribution Report and read results by lead cohort, so a deal closed in month four is still credited to the ad that started it.

“We’ve worn out our audience.”

What we do

A tight B2B audience tires fast when one ad runs at it for months. We rotate creative, manage frequency, add company lists and Predictive Audiences built from your best customers, and move budget to the accounts showing intent.

LinkedIn ad formats

Thought Leader, Document, Lead Gen: each one does a different job

Thought Leader Ads borrow a real person’s trust, Sponsored Content carries the reach, Document Ads earn the read, Lead Gen Forms capture the hand‑raise and Conversation Ads start the sales conversation. We run each one for the result it’s good at, not the one that’s easiest to buy.

Thought Leader Ads

Borrows real trust

Paid reach on a real post from your founder, your team or a customer, run from their own profile. The format that looks least like an ad.

  • Founder and specialist posts
  • Customer posts, with their approval
  • Runs from a person, not a logo

Sponsored Content

Carries the reach

Image, video and carousel ads from your company page, targeted by title, company and industry. The workhorse for reaching target accounts.

  • Image, video and carousel
  • Built per role, not one for all
  • Video for the people who won’t read

Document Ads

Earns the read

Guides, reports and decks that scroll inside the feed, gated for leads or left open for reach. Proof of expertise where the buyer already is.

  • Gated for leads or open for reach
  • Reads inside the feed
  • Retargets everyone who opened it

Lead Gen Forms

Captures the hand-raise

Pre-filled from the member’s profile, with qualifying questions to filter out the wrong people, synced to your CRM while the lead is warm.

  • Qualifying questions on every form
  • Synced to your CRM
  • Optimised to qualified leads

Conversation Ads

Starts the conversation

An inbox message from a real person at your company, with buttons that branch to a demo or a guide. Aimed at warm accounts, not cold lists.

  • Sent from a named person
  • Branching paths to the next step
  • Retargeted audiences only

Account-Based Targeting

Works the account

Company lists, retargeting and Predictive Audiences built from your best customers, so the whole buying committee sees the right message.

  • Target account lists uploaded
  • Retargeting by page and video view
  • Exclusions for who can’t buy

  • Deal value that can carry a real cost per lead.
  • A sales team that follows up leads fast.
  • You want pipeline and revenue, not impressions.

Not a fit

  • Low‑ticket impulse purchases.

  • You can’t share what happens after the form.
  • You need results this fortnight.
  • Cashflow is limited to scale.

say about us

Four people arm in arm behind the pen display cases inside the Milligram store

“Pulp is like no other agency we have ever worked with. Milligram has been with Pulp for over four years and we have seen incredible results across Meta and Google. They really are thought leaders when it comes to strategy in the digital marketing space. The team are extremely generous with their time, knowledge, and have heaps of input into our content and media planning, which really sets them apart. Plus we love our weekly meetings!”

Benn Martiniello and Lisandro Paz of Elite Eleven

“Working with Georgia & the team has been an absolute game changer for us. Since implementing their strategy across socials, and more specifically TikTok, we’ve seen a significant lift in engagement, reach, and overall brand awareness. They brought a clear structure to our content, while still allowing creativity to thrive, and consistently pushed us to think more natively for the platform. Beyond performance, they’ve also been incredible to work with. They are insightful, and genuinely invested in our growth. We’ve learnt so much from them, and their impact will continue to shape how we approach TikTok and socials moving forward. Thank you Georgia and team for everything!”

Brodie & Roger Cook, Founders of Lucent Globe

“Pulp scaled our spend with the right strategies and unique creatives. They were instrumental to the level of scale we achieved in a short time. From ad account structure to daily creative testing, every touchpoint was mapped out and optimised so nothing was left to guesswork. What used to take us weeks of trial and error now happens in days, and the results speak for themselves. It’s rare to find a team that moves this fast without cutting corners on strategy, and rarer still to find one that keeps communicating clearly the whole way through.”

The Clean Like a Pro team

“As a new business, we had no idea how to run and scale ads. We were burnt by previous agencies who made big promises but didn’t deliver. The Pulp team have been a game-changer for us. From day one, they’ve been nothing but professional, reliable, and on top of the latest strategies. They consistently bring fresh ideas and innovative approaches that deliver incredible results. Pulp exceeded our expectations which gave us the confidence to trust in their expertise to help us reach and exceed our goals.”

Matt Donkin of Olivia & Grace

“We’ve been with Pulp Digital since November 2024 and our growth in that time has been huge. They go above and beyond every single time. Our Creative and Digital Strategist Ciara is fantastic. I actually look forward to our regular weekly calls, not just for the ideas and expertise she brings to the table, but for the genuine interest she takes in helping our business grow. It never feels like just another client call. And they don’t churn staff either, so you’re not constantly re-explaining your business to someone new. The owner Sam Despo is an absolute legend, the GOAT. As a small family business, having a team like this in our corner has made a real difference. Couldn’t recommend them more highly.”

Matt and Tara Grisold of Coated

“Sam and the team at Pulp have been incredible to work with since day one. While we engaged with them to purely manage our Meta account, they’ve gone above and beyond to help support our business in other ways. It’s very easy to hit a wall and not have any creative ideas for content, but the Pulp Digital team have a constant ‘finger on the pulse’ and recommend organic content ideas when we need it. We look forward to seeing our businesses grow together in the future!”

LinkedIn ads questions, answered

Is LinkedIn right for my business?
If you sell to businesses, or sell something considered enough that the buyer’s job title tells you whether they can buy it, almost certainly. LinkedIn’s ad tools report 18 million members in Australia, around 85 per cent of adults, and it is the only platform where that audience can be sliced by role, seniority, company and industry. It suits B2B services, software, professional and financial services, education, recruitment and high‑value purchases sold to professionals. If you sell a $40 impulse product, Meta will do the job for a fraction of the click price, and we’ll tell you so on the first call.
Isn’t LinkedIn too expensive compared with Meta and Google?
Per click, yes: it is usually the dearest click in paid social. The right comparison is cost per qualified opportunity. A click from a named decision‑maker at a target account is worth many clicks from the general public, and a tight audience with the right message turns an expensive click into cheap pipeline. We keep spend honest by excluding the people who can’t buy, using the formats LinkedIn charges least for, and reporting cost per opportunity next to cost per click.
We tried LinkedIn ads and the leads were junk. Why try again?
Usually one of three things went wrong: the form asked for nothing so anyone could fill it, the audience was wider than the buyer, or LinkedIn was never told which leads were good so it kept finding more of the same. What’s different now is the feedback loop. Qualifying questions filter at the form, the Conversions API sends your CRM’s qualified‑lead outcomes back to LinkedIn, and the account optimises towards the leads your sales team accepts. LinkedIn reports a 39 per cent lower cost per qualified lead for advertisers using it. We audit the old account first and show you which of the three it was.
We’re already running Meta and Google. Why add LinkedIn?
Because neither can reach a buyer by job title. Google catches the people already searching, Meta finds buyers from behaviour, and both are superb for consumer brands. When the person who signs is a finance director at a company of a certain size, LinkedIn is the only platform that can put your ad in front of exactly them and nobody else. For B2B brands we usually run Google for the demand that already exists, LinkedIn to create demand inside target accounts, and retargeting across all three from one plan.
Do we need a founder willing to post, or content ready to go?
It helps, but it isn’t a condition. Thought Leader Ads work best when a founder, a specialist or a happy customer will put their name to a post, and we brief those posts so they’re quick to write and approve. Without one, Sponsored Content, Document Ads and video from the company page still do the job. We brief the concepts, copy, documents and video, your team produces them, and we put spend behind whatever earns the read.
How long before we see results?
Early signal inside 30 days, a clear read on what’s working by day 60 to 90, and pipeline on your sales cycle’s timetable, because an ad can’t close a six‑month deal in six weeks. The Insight Tag, Conversions API and CRM connection go in first, since every optimisation after that depends on them. Lead Gen and retargeting show first; account‑based awareness builds over a quarter and compounds. We read results by lead cohort and through LinkedIn’s Revenue Attribution Report, which can credit a deal closed up to a year after the first touch.
